I began working as an English teacher in Beijing 20 years ago. During that time, I had the opportunity to connect with people from different cultures and build friendships despite the challenges of language differences. I started loving Mandarin more, so I decided to pursue a PhD. I now focus on teaching Mandarin and sharing the beauty of Chinese culture in my career. I have worked with IB students for a long time, helping them get ready for IB exams. I have seen many of them go from being beginners to becoming fluent speakers. I have experience teaching at different types of schools and doing private tutoring. This has influenced the way I teach, as I always consider the unique needs of my students.
I use a well-rounded approach. I teach students about Chinese literature, history, and pop culture, in addition to the language. This method helps students understand how to use language and its cultural meaning more effectively. I like to involve everyone in my lessons, so I often have discussions, tell stories, and analyse films. I focus on helping IB students become confident in speaking Mandarin, writing essays, and understanding texts with cultural awareness.
I choose to study Mandarin with my 12-year-old daughter. Since we have been taking lessons with Sophie for a year, I have had the opportunity to think about how she instructs both adults and kids. Sophie is a devoted and highly inspiring teacher. She sends out additional material after the lesson if we ask for any additional information. The lessons follow a clear format. For my classes, I'm use HSK1 books. My daughter initially used flash cards and has since added text books. I'm really pleased with Sophie , and I wholeheartedly endorse her as a Mandarin tutor for both children and adults.
Sophie's teaching methods are unique and enjoyable. But sometimes I wish we could have more grammar sessions.
Ph.D. in Biotechnology
My name is Nahla, and I’m an experienced tutor who wants to make learning an exciting experience for students all over the world. I’ve around 8 years of experience in teaching this subject to IB, IGCSE, AQA, GCSE, Edexcel, etc., levels of students. I’ve also assisted MCAT students with their studies. PhD in Comparative Religion
I have spent twenty years studying religion, and during that time, I have seen how knowledge can have a powerful impact on people's lives. I have worked in different places, like small villages where I learned about the local religious practices, and also in university departments where we discussed worldwide religious events. I have learned a lot about different religions, their practices, beliefs, and how they affect communities through my research projects. I have taken breaks from my regular life to live in religious communities. I did this to learn about their daily practices and beliefs. I share real-life experiences with my students to give them practical knowledge along with theoretical concepts.
Teaching religious studies is not just about religious texts and rituals. It is about understanding what it means to be human. I focus on making a safe place for students to discuss and question religious beliefs. I use videos and multimedia presentations to help students understand what they are learning. I want to teach them to understand and value the different religious beliefs in the world.
Mr. Youssef has this way of making religious studies interesting. I never knew there were so many connections between different religions. He uses maps and pictures, and sometimes even different books to help us understand. What stands out the most is his patience. Even if someone asks a question that might seem simple, he takes the time to answer it thoroughly. He also brings in stories from his own experiences, which helps us see the real-world application of what we're learning.
Since my son started attending Mr. Youssef's class, our dinner conversations have changed. He's always sharing a new fact or story.
PhD in Industrial Biotechnology
I’m a PhD scholar, and I’ve spent more than 20 years dealing with this subject. My academic background consists primarily of microbiology and environmental biology subjects; my favourite subject was industrial biology. I earned a 3.8 CGPA in my PhD. In recognition of my hard work, I was awarded a “hard-working student” award. I’ve been tutoring throughout my graduating years, plus served 11 years in a high school as a lecturer. My students claim to witness great and positive change in their academic learning.
I like to create an interactive and high-standard learning environment where students can learn and solve their learning problems under my guidance. I designed a need-based technical writing course for university students and its paper is published. The students I prepared for higher education, they are now in their university degree phase.

I always observe culture and religious sensitivities of the students. I always encourage students' autonomous learning. I do need analysis formally/informally, find out students' pronunciation problems and elicit their learning style. This information helps me to design my lessons according to the students' needs.
