As an online Chinese tutor, I’ve met numerous students from around the globe and helped them achieve excellence in the Chinese language and culture. With 3 years of experience in online tutoring, I’ve honed my tutoring skills and even learnt advanced tutoring methodologies that would work best for this generation’s students. I firmly believe that learning the Chinese language cannot happen without having exposure to its culture because language isn’t just about learning sentences — it’s more about the representation of people’s ideologies. That being said, I incorporate cultural topics in the lesson plans and even try to conduct cultural discussions or debates to enhance the student’s cultural knowledge. This plays a major role in helping the students understand the literal and metaphorical meanings of utterances, along with the cultural nuances behind them. Ultimately, helping them develop cultural sensitivity that is important for effective communication or writing a perfect piece of Chinese Literature.
