I have attended many seminars to improve my teaching methods for my students. In addition, I have taken on responsibilities outside of the classroom. I have helped with research projects and worked together with others on mathematical publications.
I believe that math is logical and systematic. I begin by teaching the fundamental ideas, ensuring that students understand the basics before moving on to more difficult topics. I teach my students to understand the patterns and logic behind formulas and equations, instead of just seeing them as abstract concepts. I have found a method called "reverse teaching" to be effective. It involves asking students to teach a topic back to me after it has been covered. This helps them understand better and feel more confident. I help students who are having trouble understanding a concept by explaining it in different ways. This can include using real-life examples, visual diagrams, or hands-on activities. The goal is to find a method that makes sense to them.
Guillermo helps my 8-year-old daughter with math. Guillermo was always on time and well-prepared for his lessons. He is a friendly and professional teacher. I started learning Japanese when I was in my early twenties because I went to Japan for a research project. For the past 25 years, I have focused on teaching this wonderful language. I've noticed that students learn languages better when they know about the culture. I include cultural aspects in my teaching approach.
I combine language learning with lessons about culture. As we learn about language, I make sure students also learn about Japanese traditions, festivals, and everyday life situations. In this way, students are not only talking the language but also experiencing it. I think that when you truly understand a culture, the language becomes a part of you.
It has been a pleasure to learn Japanese with Poon Tung's kind help. He has helped me feel more comfortable speaking in public and has been very helpful in teaching me new words.
His methods are helpful, but the cultural asides can get in the way of learning the language itself sometimes. Focusing on more than one thing would help.
Master's in Spanish Literature
I've been teaching Spanish to students for more than 25 years, and I always stress how beautiful and deep the language's literature is. I've introduced many students to the rich world of Spanish writing, from the passionate poems of Pablo Neruda to the thought-provoking prose of Gabriel García Márquez. I've met authors, poets, and scholars at many literature workshops in Spain and Latin America. These interactions have helped me learn more about the language and its subtleties.
The way I teach is based on the idea that literature is the soul of a language. I don't just teach grammar and vocabulary; I get my students interested in the stories, poems, and articles written in Spanish. We learn language patterns and improve our vocabulary and understanding at the same time when we read. I also like it when people talk about themes, figures, and historical background in groups. This helps everyone understand the whole picture. People in my class don't just speak Spanish; they feel it, understand it, and, most of all, love it.
Mrs. Green's class feels like a book club, where we explore amazing Spanish works. It's my favorite part of the week.

I've spent over a quarter of a century teaching Spanish literature, and sharing its wonders with students at the university level. In my classes, we don't just learn Spanish; we experience it. Think of it like a trip: We "travel" to Spanish-speaking places without leaving the room. We might "visit" a market in Mexico, "attend" a football match in Spain, or "celebrate" a holiday from Argentina. We use fun activities and games that show what life's like in these places. So, besides learning how to speak, my students also get a feel of what it's like to be a part of that world. It's like learning and having a little adventure at the same time!

Matt's a cool teacher and all. I love the books and movies he suggests. But honestly, sometimes I get lost when he skips over some grammar bits. Would be nice if he could balance it out a bit more.
