For more than 14 years, I have had the opportunity to teach many different students Latin. I have helped high school students learn the language and guided university scholars in studying Latin literature. These interactions have greatly improved my teaching approach. My approach revolves around learning Latin poetry, where words transform into beautiful art. In this approach, we will study the writings of well-known Latin poets like Horace, Catullus, and Propertius, and others. Students will like Latin poetry, understand the different patterns and techniques used, and even make their own Latin verses.We will begin with easy poems and then move on to harder ones. By carefully reading, analyzing, and understanding, students will develop a deep understanding of the subtle aspects of Latin poetry. We will also talk about the history and culture when these poems were written. This will help students understand and relate to the feelings and ideas in each poem.
